HOLYBRO SiK Telemetry Radio - Long Range

Product information "HOLYBRO SiK Telemetry Radio - Long Range"

HOLYBRO SiK Long Range Telemetry Radio 1W – Long-Range Telemetry Radio System for UAVs

The HOLYBRO SiK Long Range Telemetry Radio is a compact and powerful telemetry radio system for UAVs and other unmanned systems. Compared with the standard version, the Long Range version provides higher transmission power and is designed for applications requiring greater communication distances between the vehicle and ground station.

The system is based on the open-source SiK firmware and is specifically designed for reliable MAVLink data transmission. It can be used with Pixhawk Standard flight controllers and other compatible autopilot systems and supports PX4, ArduPilot, Mission Planner, and QGroundControl.

The radio modules are available in 433 MHz or 915 MHz versions and provide a maximum RF output power of up to 1 W. When selecting and configuring the frequency version and transmission power, the applicable regulations of the country or region of operation must be observed.

Long-Range Telemetry

The SiK Long Range Telemetry Radio establishes a bidirectional data link between the flight controller of an unmanned system and the ground station. With a maximum transmission power of up to 1 W, the Long Range version is particularly suitable for applications requiring communication over greater distances.

The actual achievable range depends on several factors, including the frequency band, permitted transmission power, antenna configuration, installation position, terrain, line of sight, radio interference, and selected data rate.

Up to 1 W Transmission Power

The Long Range version supports a maximum RF output power of 1 W or 30 dBm. This distinguishes it from the lower-power versions of the standard SiK Telemetry Radio.

  • Maximum RF Output Power: 1 W
  • Maximum Transmission Power: 30 dBm
  • Designed for long-range telemetry applications
  • High-gain omnidirectional antennas included

433 MHz or 915 MHz

The HOLYBRO SiK Long Range Telemetry Radio is available in different frequency versions. Depending on the selected version, the system operates in the 433 MHz or 915 MHz frequency band.

Available frequencies and permitted transmission power vary depending on the country and region. Before operation, users must verify which frequency bands, transmission power levels, and operating modes are permitted at the intended location.

Plug-and-Play for Pixhawk

The telemetry system is designed for straightforward integration with Pixhawk Standard flight controllers. The air module can be connected to a compatible telemetry port on the flight controller using the 6-pin JST-GH connector.

The air and ground modules are interchangeable, allowing both radio modules to be used flexibly according to the specific system configuration.

Open-Source SiK Firmware

The radio modules use the proven open-source SiK firmware. It was specifically developed for MAVLink telemetry applications and provides a transparent serial data link between the flight controller and ground station.

  • Open-source SiK firmware
  • Optimized for MAVLink data transmission
  • Transparent Serial Link
  • MAVLink Protocol Framing
  • Suitable for PX4 and ArduPilot

Compatible with PX4 and ArduPilot

The HOLYBRO SiK Long Range Telemetry Radio can be used with compatible flight controllers running PX4 or ArduPilot. On the ground station side, the system can be used with software including Mission Planner and QGroundControl.

  • Pixhawk Standard flight controllers
  • PX4
  • ArduPilot
  • Mission Planner
  • QGroundControl
  • MAVLink

Bidirectional Communication

The system provides bidirectional data communication through an adaptive TDM-UART interface. This allows telemetry data to be transmitted from the vehicle to the ground station while data from the ground station can simultaneously be sent back to the flight controller.

Depending on the autopilot and ground station software used, information such as flight status, position data, system information, mission data, and parameters can be exchanged through the telemetry connection.

  • Bidirectional data communication
  • Adaptive TDM-UART interface
  • Transparent serial connection
  • MAVLink Protocol Framing

3.3 V UART Interface

Communication with the flight controller is provided through a 3.3 V UART interface. A 6-pin JST-GH connector is provided for connection to Pixhawk Standard flight controllers.

  • Serial Interface: 3.3 V UART
  • Flight Controller Connector: 6-pin JST-GH
  • Power Connector: XT30

USB Interface

An integrated FT230X/FT231 USB-to-UART IC provides USB communication, allowing the radio module to be connected to a ground station or compatible computer system.

The 1 W radio pair includes a USB-C to USB-C cable for connection to compatible devices.

Power Supply

The 1 W version supports a wide input voltage range of 7 to 28 V DC. Power is supplied through an XT30 connector.

  • Input Voltage: 7–28 V DC
  • Power Connector: XT30
  • Transmit Current: approx. 400 mA at 12 V and 30 dBm
  • Receive Current: approx. 30 mA at 12 V

High-Gain Antennas

The 1 W radio pair is supplied with two high-gain omnidirectional antennas. Antenna configuration is an important factor affecting both connection quality and achievable communication range.

For a reliable telemetry connection, the antennas should be installed according to their intended polarization and positioned as far as practical from shielding materials or components such as carbon fiber, metal, or large electronic assemblies.
