HOLYBRO PM02D Power Module – Digital Power Supply and Power Monitoring for Pixhawk® 5X & 6X

The HOLYBRO PM02D Power Module has been specifically designed for the power supply and power monitoring of modern Pixhawk® flight controllers. It powers compatible flight controllers, including the Pixhawk® 5X and Pixhawk® 6X, directly from the flight battery with a regulated voltage while simultaneously transmitting battery voltage and current consumption data to the flight controller.

Unlike analog power modules such as the PM02, the PM02D transmits voltage and current measurements via an I2C-compatible digital interface. Power supply and measurement data are provided through a compact 6-pin connection to the flight controller.

The integrated switching regulator provides a regulated output voltage of 5.2 V with a maximum output current of 3 A. LiPo batteries from 2S to 12S are supported, making the PM02D suitable for a wide range of professional UAV and robotics platforms.

Digital Voltage and Current Measurement

During operation, the PM02D measures the battery voltage and current consumption of the system. The measurements are transmitted digitally to the flight controller via an I2C-compatible interface.

This digital transmission distinguishes the PM02D from the analog PM02, PM06, and PM07 power modules and enables its use with flight controllers such as the Pixhawk® 5X and Pixhawk® 6X.

Regulated 5.2 V Power Supply

The integrated switching regulator of the PM02D converts the battery voltage into a regulated output voltage of 5.2 V. The output provides a maximum of 3 A for powering a compatible flight controller and connected electronics.

The HOLYBRO PM02D is designed for flight controllers that support a digital power module interface. These include newer Pixhawk® platforms such as the Pixhawk® 5X and Pixhawk® 6X.

This makes the PM02D particularly suitable for modern UAV systems that require a digitally connected power module for monitoring the main power supply.

For 2S to 12S Batteries

The HOLYBRO PM02D supports input voltages from 2S to 12S. This allows the power module to be used in both smaller UAV platforms and higher-performance systems operating with higher battery voltages.

High Current Capability

The PM02D PCB is designed for a continuous current of up to 60 A. For short periods of less than 60 seconds, the PCB can handle currents of up to 100 A. The maximum current measurement range is 327 A.

Pre-Assembled XT60 Connections

The PM02D is supplied fully assembled with XT60 connectors and 14 AWG silicone wires. The electronics are additionally protected by heat-shrink tubing to help protect the PCB against mechanical damage.

This allows the power module to be integrated into an existing or newly developed UAV system with minimal wiring effort.

Important Note on Current Capacity

The pre-installed XT60 connectors and 14 AWG silicone wires are rated for a continuous current of 30 A and a short-term peak current of 60 A for less than one minute.

The current capacity of the PCB itself is higher, with a continuous rating of 60 A and a peak rating of 100 A. If higher currents are required, the connectors and wire gauge must be appropriately selected and adapted to the actual electrical load.

Not Intended for Powering Servos

The PM02D is not designed to directly power servos. Servos and other high-current devices should be powered through the ESC or a suitable external BEC within the respective system.

The Molex CLIK-Mate wire-to-board connector with a 2.00 mm pitch is rated for a maximum current of 3.0 A per contact.

Note on the PM02D HV Version

When using the PM02D HV version, the SENS_EN_INA228 parameter must be enabled accordingly to ensure that voltage and current measurements are correctly processed by the flight controller.
